 Greetings fellow Indian enthusiast, (3/12/2000)

So, why create yet another Indian Site?
P
rimarily two reasons, one was that the '"New Indian" sites are becoming increasingly common and look very slick. I wanted to show them where the real interest and talents lie, and since I  design websites as part of my business, I have never had a better reason to create one that showcase's both the glorious Indian and my web skills!. Lastly it is my way of preserving my interest in something that consumes, and fills my life with joy - Indian motorcycles, so it is largely a personal tribute that I have chosen to share with you as well as a great way to document my restorations and experiences.

Basically we want to concentrate on the more aesthetic side of Indians, restoration stories, riding experiences, rallies, meets, you know the human side. We also want to be the first place you visit to read and place Indian classifieds. We don't profess to be technical wizards, in any case these are covered very well by VirtualIndian and its mailing list already.

My involvement with Indians
Gregs 351 Roadmaster 80" Bonneville ChiefWhile I can't quite count the number of years I have been involved with Indians on two hands anymore,  Indians actually first made there effect felt on the family in the late twenties when my grandfather owned we think, a 1925 Chief. Sometime In 1930, when my father was just two, my Grandfather had an accident in Gore, South Otago while riding. He died several weeks later indirectly from infection & complications brought on by slow attendance to his leg injuries. You could put this down to the medical era back then, but a dreadful accident, which also ended fatally, happened to his nurse and that drew all attention away from him. She spilled a large bottle of hydrochloric acid over herself - well you can imagine the horrifying result.
My Uncle Charlie also owned a 28 or 29 101 Scout which you can see here with a young cousin Frank on it.

The 26 chief, its a real blast this one..What's in my stables?, currently I have four Chiefs, a '26, '35, ''51 and a chout,   plus 2x 101's, both 45''ers, a '25 scout and 'a 23 Powerplus Racer (Standard)  and half a 741 in the garden that used to be a water pump!. Of course my best mount, (I didnt say favourite!) as restored by me is my 351. See below for other articles on my collection..

Are we Commercial?
In the beginning I thought long and hard over whether or not to give imb.com a commercial flavor, and decided that due to the amount of my time I am giving (I am self employed and my time really is money, as they say!), and the fact that this is a very big site (200+MB, around 400 pages), I have decided to run banner advertising subsidization. My time aside, with a yearly renewable domain name, the site hosting and the internet traffic fees, mean costs are currently over $1000 per yr.
So, who's going to pay for all this? surely I can't expect you, (though a small donation would be appreciated!), so its mostly down to sponsorship, revenue is earned by clicking our sponsors banners, you need not spend anything. So you have the choice of ignoring the banners or ignoring your conscience!, up to you.

©Copyright & Redress
This was also tough decision, I have decided it was less trouble and much less work to simply publish the work without having to resolve ownership first.  Mainly because we use a roaming agent that gathers photos etc from auctions, websites and mailing lists automatically. Much of our initial content will come from various external sources, e.g. commercial sites, clubs, private for sale & wanted ads, stolen bike notices and other services which combined together should enhance your visit. We instead rely on the holder who has a gripe with a particular photo or whatever we have published to contact us for redress.
Where copyright is already stated, permission is always sought, and appropriate references made to ownership. Of course, in the same spirit, imb.com wishes to release all it's original work into the public domain also, c'mon where here to disseminate and share information for the common cause are we not?

In Summary
W
elcome to imb.com, I hope you enjoy the site and acknowledge my efforts by promoting and using it even though it's still in its infancy, and it is graphics and Java intensive and still  lacking in original content. Soon we will be all better connected and the slow dialups will be, like the original Indian Motocycle Company, a thing of the past. While being essentially free, great value in itself, we do accept donations, if you can' t donate I do ask in return to hear from you, be it the guest book, mailing our links to friends & colleagues, or by sending in your photos, articles and posting messages. You can still support your favorite site or list, just cut and paste or cross-post your work, inquiry or adverts to both!.

Please give something back and we promise too stay around and repay the favor, there's big plans ahead for imb.com, stay tuned and return often..Take care, keep your knees in the breeze but ride safely. Greg.
