.....the 36 was hammered and hammered again.......every single piece of this 36  has long story...I do not know where to start or end and it would go on forever........as example....leaf springs....the orig. fellow I bought it from already had the bike painted... incl.... the leaf springs....he had not taken them apart just painted over......after I bought  the bike I took the leafs apart  &  stripped all new paint & ori. paint......2 of the leafs where cracked in half.....rusted  but not like what was to come...so on to rebuild of leafs doing tracings over leafs to know how to reassemble ... after all the springs where stripped and  nos found etc. ...then I painted them with a silver (I think aluminum paint) so....as when I give the to a painter friend assembled he could shoot new paint, but all leafs would be painted so they could move as designed.......so alls done and assembled out for paint and back....now as the leafs are being installed I notice rust in between the springs........and  fig. out what happened......the painter washed it with solvent and then dips it in water blow dry and paint.......so almost back to sq. one.....take them back apart.... (taking apart or putting together leafs is a project story on its own ).......

I get them back apart take all paint off (and rust) back to bear metal.......this time paint myself and assemble, paint and install.....now I know there is no hidden problems.......painter is very good does many bikes but not old leaf springs... his first time.....so.... to write about every part .....would take a long time ...........I found a helmut cam and will be making cam movies on bike with sound and also time lapse movies with moto sound and music from riding on the coast to splitting lanes in traffic....How did I come across it?

I was restoring my 44 Chief Nebraska Safety Patrol bike, after taking it all apart and starting to restore each and every part a restorer who was spear heading  the restoration transformed in to a blunt spear….the old story…I advanced him $ he spent it and we all know that story…..so now I was traveling 80 mile round trip to work in his shop on Saturdays….as I was struggling along a friend of mine also brought a bike (my 36 Chief) down to restore…..my friend is a rider not wait a century to have a pretty bike so very soon he sold me the 336 and went on to ride one of his other 46 bikes (4 being Chiefs)….so as I worked one and would get stuck or need a part I could then work on the other trying to make progress…..so after years of this struggle…..I gave up, pulled both bikes and took them to Bob Stark and asked for help……he said ok….so I went home and less than than a year later both bikes where complete and as good as they get……..The 36 has just over 100 low speed break in miles but purrs like a kitten…..special items on bike is z fly wheels, Bonneville cams and followers, linkert mod. Carb.,cast iron 40’s oil pump, 3 speed syn. tranny with overdrive therefore 4 speed syn…..yes at 70! - there is more……dunlop st race tires to stay stickie in corners and braking I have to push back on handlebar to keep from sliding forward…..I did not take a lot of photos along the way but here is what I have…….Greg, like your site very much…..it keep me going along the way…………..thank all that helped the 20 of 30plus folks with parts……… advice………….shoulders to lean on……………………Lucian
